The fifth stage on the Korea-Josh scale is...
Technically I still ate my gimbap with soy sauce, which is not standard practice, but screw it. I’d have used wasabi too if I had it.
I also had Waffle Bant today while I was at work. Koreans apparently like their waffles as a sort of donut or pastry in style? They’re very crispy, have honey on them, and fruit inside. This one was blackberry. It was delicious.
Some sort of, what I think were funerary festivities were going on after work in the parking lot of the building across the way.
It may have been political, but I don’t think so, they played a very somber, sorrowful song after the drummers and dancers stopped, and there were pictures up of this guy from different stages of his life. That along with what I think to be grave food says death...
Chicken feet, intestines, and other delicacies.
I went to get my Alien Registration Card today. It was a smooth process, apparently not that many people go through that office. After that James took me to lunch at some sort of chicken restaurant where they boil almost a whole bird for you. Boiled chicken restaurants! My father would be ecstatic.
I sadly didn’t get a picture of the meal, but you haven’t really lived until...
Trip to the capital.
On Monday I took a trip to the capital to help a friend out.
At the bus terminal we saw this gem:
I want to be positive about the idea, but I’m fairly certain that it would sit unused in the States.
After taking care of business we walked to the Gyeongbokgung palace - the palace of Emperor Sejong. It was pissing down the rain the entirety of the time we were there, so I took very few...
Welcome! (a few days late)
Last night I had my big welcoming party after work. I kinda suspected that was what was going on, as nobody left at the end of the day, but I wasn’t sure there wasn’t something else that I was supposed to know about, but had missed by way of obliviousness, or not knowing the secret to Korean telepathy. So after 8 we all packed up and hiked over to a local restaurant, which was a...
Home sweet home.
My apartment is pretty nice. It’s tiny, but it isn’t bad. I miss having a dryer. Holy shit I wish I had a dryer. What is wrong with you Korea? Why u no like clothes without wrinkles or lint?!
This picture probably contains the physical address of my apartment. Probably. I should have my mail sent to my workplace though due to the oddities of the postal system in Korea when...
On Landing in Hell.
I’ve hinted a bit on Facebook and directly told some of my friends and family about the absolute Hell I experienced on landing in South Korea, so let me put it out there for everyone else. I think I’ll recover from the experience if I can meet a few expats to help me get on my feet in the next month, something I’m hoping I can pull off very soon.
It was a bit rough leaving the...
Saturday night part II.
If I keep this up I’m going to want to find more food, that’s why I only bought to bottles of booze.
Korea you did this right. This stuff is awesome.
Saturday night in the new traditional Korean Way
Skál! Wait that’s wrong. Kunbe! That’s still not quite right. For Aiur!
There we go.
Taking out the trash
I’ve been here for slightly less than a week, and it’s been a rocky one. I’ll write another post later to discuss the minutia of the Hell that I landed in, but right now I’d like to discuss something amazing.
By amazing I mean weird. It’s also information that would make everything so much more manageable for landlords around the US when dealing with families that...
